The DuPage County Branch, NAACP has a long legacy of representing African Americans and other underrepresented groups throughout the counties of DuPage, Kane, Kendall, and Will. Our past includes creating equal access to jobs, ensuring fair housing practices, standing against biased litigation, empowering people with economic resources, and supporting youth with access to scholarships and college readiness.
Through the progress we have realized locally, we understand that we are still far from the goal of equality. This is evident in academic test scores and suspension rates, a lack of local involvement of minority businesses, little to zero political representation, disproportionate incarceration rates, and other far too obvious signs of a lack of civility for all people. The struggle is no longer about diversity. Diversity is here now and tomorrow. The struggle is about inclusion. The mission of eliminating the effects of discrimination and to create equal advancement opportunities continue to face us.
I firmly believe that the best way for us to progress is through unity and collaborative accountability of all stakeholders in our community. We are working diligently to bring our talents, expertise, interests and efforts together to create an active and engaged unit of resources. We have engaged resources for litigation, minority business development, youth advancement, access to jobs, mentorship program for all ages, and many other outreach efforts that are lead by phenomenal people who care for the best interests of others and their community.
Our strength is in our membership, volunteers and sponsors. In order for us to fill the gaps from where we are and where we need to be and to realize our full potential, we need your support. There is very significant work that must be done to carry out the legacy, and consequently, this creates a wide range of opportunities to participate.
To our members, volunteers and sponsors….You are greatly appreciated for your sacrifice to serve others. We sincerely thank you for your generous donations of time and funding to help us carry out our mission.
